From video 2; when my 1977 had that behavior, it was my WUR running a little lean. I drilled, tapped, and put a bolt into the adjustment pin, then pushed it in about 1mm to richen the cold start mixture. It fixed my issue; might be worth a shot for you.

I've had a similar issue with my '86 930. Starting was hit and miss but running was perfect. I tracked the issue down to the switch in the air flow plate not closing upon starting. Thus the fuel pumps were not coming on. In the short term (2+ years) I shorted the contacts for the switch. The fuel pumps run all the time when the key is turned to on but the engine fires every time.

Hi Tony,

Absolutely right! As I mentioned to the OP, it doesn't take the place of testing. Also, check my first post to him. I mentioned vac leak testing and fuel pressure testing as the first things to do (after ensuring ignition is up to spec of course).

Souk's test is great for getting someone in the range for mixture when there is no gauge for testing.

Your methodology is definitely getting out there to the masses.

Lots of folks struggle with CIS troubleshooting. You know why? Because they are not following the correct troubleshooting procedures. Do yourself a favor and follow them. You will need some equipment, or you will need to use someone who has the equipment. First, you make sure the ignition system is working properly. Then, IIRC, troubleshooting starts with fuel pressure tests.

Or you can do what lots of people do which is to guess and make assumptions, and swap out parts. This method works poorly and is considerably more expensive than the factory troubleshooting procedures.

Hey Showdown, rest assured you're in the right place !

If you need to adjust the CCP, a clamp works very well.

You may wan to put some fuel in the car look's like it's almost empty. Those gauges aren't that accurate.

With Ton''s assistance I was able to isolate the issue to the WUR which he rebuilt in 2015 but was poorly maintained and super clogged. I disassembled and rebuilt it and now the car starts up pretty easily. There's still a warm start issue but I think that can be solved by adding a check valve to the fuel pump as the filter, accumulator and FP were replaced shortly before I bought the car but no check valve was added. I still need to do a smoke test but for now this is a major (minor) victory and I can get the car started with ease!

And yes, I need to rebuild the gas tank sender because the car had about half a tank...
