Great issue here: What extras/mods will I need to upgrade to 9" Fuchs?
OK, I know there are similar threads on this topic, but the search is bringing up a billion results, so here's my question in a nutshell:
I currently have an '85 targa with 16" 6's and 7's. I want to put the 7's up front and get some 9's for the rear. Questions: 1) Will I need spacers? (what are those anyway?) 2) Do I need to get tie rods? (where are those?) 3) Do I need to upgrade/modify anything else? 4) Do I need to "roll" my fenders at all? Thanks so much. I'm not such a newbie, but do need some assistance with this issue. Please advise, and if you have a set of anodized 9's with black spokes you'd like to unload, please PM me. regards

9's went on the rear of my SC with 245/45/16's, no mods, no spacers.
I've heard a lot of people say "you may need to roll the fenders in the rear", has anyone really had to do that to fit 9's?

Just to add to the mix, I have 2 SCs and a set of 9's. I have been able to fit the 9's without any modification to either car. I think you will find the same.
I am running 245's on the rims and believe both cars are set to -1.5 degree camber. Tire selection might make a difference, but I bet you don't even have to roll the fenders to get the 9's to fit. Go for it. The 7's and 9's make the car handle significantly better than the 6's and 7's. Huge difference and well worth the investment in my opinion. Have fun!

The answer to numbers 1-4 is, no, no, no and no for '78-89 911s, and others with RS, SC or Carrera rear fenders. Maximum size w/o issues is 205/55-16 and 245/45-16 and nothing drastic in the ride height department. Aftermarket wheels can go larger/wider due to different center offsets. Sorry for the brevity but I think it's the same answer from all the archives.
