wiper motor wires
I am about to install a new wiper motor and mechanism in my 70 targa. The local wrench pulled it three years ago and after rust repair, paint etc etc I am approaching the on the road stage.
My problem is , the four sets of wires that go on the motor are unlabeled. I need to know which colored wires go to each post. There are three vertical posts and one horizontal at "lets call it the top". I think that makes 24 possible combinations. The one right one would be excellent.

There is a proper wiring diagram for your year 911 on the main Porsche page here at PP. (below the 911 BBS there is a link for wiring diagrams). I just looked and see that the wiper motor is identified in the legend and shows the wires and color codes for connecting. Hope that helps.
The information available on site continues to amaze me!

wires,where
I know the wires and colors. What I don't know is which posts which wires go to and maybe it is just me, but I can't figure out which posts go to which wires from the diagrams.
When the parts come I will figure out ground(brown) and with a tester, try to figure out posts for speeds. It might not be a horrible task . Maybe. Skip

Hey Skip, just went through the same thing on my 71S, same wiper. However, there were two systems, a three speed and a intermitent wiper set up. The intermitent wiper set up has two aluminum relays bolted to the trunk floor right below the passemger side wiper. These are NLA and were only on the 70 and 71 cars. These are the ones I have. To confuse you more the upfixings article shows the plug configuration incorrectly, the pin 31b and 53 are reversed and all the factory wiring diagrams are somewhat different and I have them all. So, if you have this set up, the following pictures will help you. The first is the wiper plugs not wired correctly, the second is the condensor looking thing that causes the wipers to park, and the last is the incorrect diagram of the plug looking at it from the clock hole in the dash. Reverse 53 with 31b.
![]() ![]() ![]() Black Yellow is at 12 O'clock, red from the condensor is 9, the brown and grey is at 3 not 6, and the Black and lavender is at 6 not 3. Don't forget the ground that is hidden under the plug assembly. Have a bunch of fuses ready, took me several days before I figured it out lol. Good luck Allan ![]()

bumping this old thread.
I have a similar config as gearbox with intermittent silver relays and the capacitor mounted under the dash. However, the red stripe and red solid wires coming off that capacitor looking thing go back into the wire harness and its hard to trace them. The black wire hanging off the this "capacitor" however is not plugged into anything. Could that be my "feed"?

Black wire from capacitor
The black wire from the capacitor can be connected to the wiper motor.
You can also connect the two red wires directly , the capacitor is there for noise suppression. For 1970 wiper motor, the correct connector is 53a at 9 oclock. Check my article/solution if you have a 70 wiper setup - connections and wires '70 Wiper Motor Question Last edited by WMontald; 09-21-2020 at 11:55 PM.. Reason: added additional info |

the condensor looking thing that causes the wipers to park?
Many years ago you posted a nice article regarding the wiring of the viper motor on your 1971 911S. I cannot make my viper self park. You say: "The first is the wiper plugs not wired correctly, the second is the condensor looking thing that causes the wipers to park"
Do you still mean that the condensor is making the viper self park? Or can it be just a noise reduction condensor. I am asking because I cannot find the condensor in my car or on the wiring diagram - and my viper do not self park. |

Walter _Middie mentions an internal motor contact issue in post 6. I believe there is another old thread dealing with the parking of the wipers I can't find now.
wipers only park in cold weather
