Removing engine bay cable ties

Can the five cable ties along the back (front?) of the engine bay be removed from the cross-member without destroying them (see picture)? I am getting ready to paint my engine bay and need to remove these. If they do get destroyed in the process, does anyone know the part number for replacements? A couple of possibilities from PET on the harnesses page:

999.513.002.40 tie-wrap
999.513.023.40 tie-wrap

thanks,
Frank

I took mine out without damaging them but I used a small pick to release the tags.
Just gentle raise one side away from the body and use a pick to push the tag back. When you get one out the others are easy.

I was impressed at the quality of these. After I cleaned them they looked brand new.

Thanks for the info - I'll give this a try tomorrow. So this is a double-barbed type retaining clip then I assume?

Wow, it's been four years since I started this thread and I'm finally shipping the chassis off to the body shop this week. One of the last items I had to do before sending it off was to remove these cable ties in the engine compartment. I found one that was a little loose and did as John Walker suggested to remove it.

For those interested, once I had it out I could see that it is uses a plunger style mechanism to expand the tabs holding it in place (see photo). Unfortunately there is no way to get under the clamp to push the pin back out. Of course you could simply push the pin all the way through to remove the clamp easily, but then you wouldn't be able to retrieve the pin so it would not be re-usable (unless you happen to have some spare pins laying around).

I still would like to find the part number for these as removing them by using JW's method does damage them slightly. And I've only removed one so far that was a little loose to begin with, so I suspect more damage on the remaining four.

Cable tie with pin retracted:

Try heating a needle red hot and then sticking it in the plastic retaining pin. When it cools it should pull out. Then twist the pin off the needle.

wow I know that I have a slight tendency to put things off but I still haven't got you the part numbers for those tie wraps yet but I do have about 8 or 10 new ones.

Lorne,
Thanks! I will take 5 of them as I was unsuccessful in removing the other 4 without breaking or having to push the pin through. Send me a PM with how much you would like and I can PayPal the money over to you (or whatever payment method you would like).

Norm,
Those magnetic zip-tie holders look like they will come in handy for some other areas. Thanks for bringing them to my attention.

I am hiding that pile of invoices from my wife, it looks to be about 3/4 inch think now (most from Pelican)
Plus I do have a tendency to forget to do things

I finally dug out the Hidden invoice folder , it is away over an inch thick, but I got the part numbers

99951300340
99951302040
99951302340

The trouble is that I don't know which of the tie wraps are which

To provide some closure to this thread, I ordered various part numbers I found in PET for cable ties, and can now confirm that the part number for the engine harness ties (shown in posts #1 and #6 of this thread) is:

999-513-023-40

I hope this helps someone with a future project.
