Yep, I remember Northlake quite well. They were on Cooledge Dr. in Tucker, just off LaVista Rd. They were the premier Atlanta area Porsche dealer in the early/mid 1970's until Peter Gregg opened his Porsche+Audi dealership in Cobb County.
I recall that when Porsche announced that the 930 Turbo was to be discontinued after MY 1979, Northlake marked their last one up to $100,000, which was about double the sticker price. They weren't in business much longer than 1980 or so, IIRC.

Guys- I am a former employee of Northlake Porsche + Audi- just to clarify a previous post-Northlake was purchased by Jim Ellis in 1982 & remains one of the top dealers in the country- the deal about selling their last Turbo for $100K is close to true (I think it was more like $75K) with an explanation- Porsche made a limited edition run of their last 50 cars coming to the US & had the dealers compete in a contest to see which of the 200 or so dealers would get the last 50 cars- Almost every dealer that was getting one put an ad in Autoweek & the phone rang off the hook-Northlake's car was Red/Tan & bought by a guy named Ken Dorfman from Chicago- he wired the money & sent a truck to pick it up. Peter Gregg did buy the former Taurus Porsche + Audi as a result of the previous owner,Elwyn Tomlinson (Capital Cadillac) being killed by a drunk driver & requiring his wife to divest the dealership since she did not meet their ownership requirements. His widow sold it in the early 90's & it eventually morphed into Hennessey Porsche reopening the second point in the Atlanta market.

The '79 Turbo I saw at Northlake with the $100K pricetag was black/black so maybe it wasn't the last one received in inventory. It was on the showroom floor, parked parallel to the back wall.
I remember it clearly, so FWIW there must have been at least two "last 930's" at Northlake back in 1979.

Jack- the Black/Black car came from Pinchback Halloran in Lexington & was bought by John Haddad for way less than 100K. He was the local "Go to Guy" for Rolex watches & traded a 911 + Watches + Cash.

Was it not a Brumos store as well? (That is what my old-timey Atlanta connections are saying).
Edit: here is a little more detail found on this website:WELCOME TO EUROPEAN CLASSICS INC. "Howard then found himself working for Brumos Atlanta who bought out Peter Greg Porsche & Audi and joined their Brumos racing pit crew under the direction of Bob Snodgrass and Debra Greg. By 1989 Brumos Atlanta turned into "First Motor Cars of Atlanta" and Howard had seen all the changes in management he needed in his lifetime to fuel his long time desire of owning his own business. As a result European Classics, Inc was born."

I used to work down the street from Northlake in a business park off Northlake Parkway. We would routinely walk around the used lot in front of the store and admired the SC line, the 928's, and 914's.
Anyone remember Brumos in Marietta on South Cobb? Bob |

I bought a sky blue 914 2.0 from Northlake in 1974. I was a newly minted Georgia Tech engineer with a regular paycheck. If I remember correctly, I paid about $6500 for it and traded in a 1969 Opel Kadett. There was another Porsche+Audi dealer closer in to the city but I can’t remember the name. Who knew Porsche would have it’s US headquarters in Atlanta 40 years later!

xbrumossalesman,
I'll check the shop storage, for another one. I believe it came off a 930, from FL. |

Neat to see this! Live in Tucker myself now, but you don’t see many Porsches around these days. Explains why there were a few P-car shops around here (mostly closed now).

No other license plate frame was found, other than old CA dealerships. Any other out of CA dealership frames were posted years ago and went to Pelicans, do a search on my user ID. It was rare to get a car with an out of state license plate frame, at this shop. I recall a few of them that needed to meet CA emissions/ smog requirements.

I stumbled upon this thread last night and created an account to reply.
My father had an exact replica created of this license plate frame to put on his own Porsche -- he had to order a good number of them though for the order and we have a ton leftover. If anyone is interested in buying one lemme know, not entirely sure on price yet but was thinking somewhere in the $20-30 range to cover shipping and initial purchase cost. Will probably create an eBay listing if there's enough demand to more easily handle transactions Last edited by cdavis; 03-18-2021 at 10:11 AM.. |

Hey all, wanted to write a quick follow-up... I made an eBay listing for the license plate frame, asking for $20/each. We've got 17 left as of right now. If you search "Vintage North Lake Audi/Porsche" on eBay you should find the listing. Most orders will be shipped same day via USPS, if you want separate arrangements made lemme know.
Again they are reproductions and not originals. But they look pretty darn close, if not exactly like the originals. Thanks. |
