Shortcuts for cleaning the window regulator?
Just did my oil change on Saturday and thanks to all the tips on this board and Wayne’s book, it went as smooth as butter. I warmed the oil, opened the drains and let it sit for a couple of hours. That has two advantages. First there is quite a bit extra oil that drips out over time and second, the oil filter has drained also and is not as hot so you don’t burn your hands taking it out and make less of an oily mess.
Since I had two hours to waste and I had Wayne’s book in my hands, I figured I would try to tackle the slow window on the passenger side. It goes down fine but struggles going up when the door is closed. It does better when the door is open (I have a Targa so no window frame) but it seems to have a slow spot halfway. So I took the door cover off and took a look inside but did not take out the regulator yet. Here is the question, can I clean/grease it while it is on the car or would that be just a waste of time and should I take it out completely and do it right? It's not that I'm lazy, just afraid to break something...

Harold,
I R&R'd my passenger side window not too long ago. It is definitely better to remove the whole assembly. It IS a bit of work, but you'll thank yourself afterwards. Do a quick check of your window channel felt, inner and outer rub felts and the rubber squeegee. If in question, order replacements from Pelican before you get started and do it all at once. Once done, you shouldn't have to deal with the problem again for years!
