1982 SC cannot be unlocked by key

I have a 82SC with manual non-powered door lock. I can push the lock pin down and lock the door but I cannot open the door with the key from the outside.

Is the problem in the door key assembly (upper) or the door latch (below) ?

you might have to partly open the door panel a look at the handle it is possible the fork has fallen off. When you turn the key is there a resistance or free?

does the key rotate the lock cylinder? if you cannot rotate the key there is a problem with the outer door handle lock assembly/key. It is not uncommon to have had the ignition lock replaced sometime during its life. if the key turns in the ignition, but not in the door, glovebox or trunk release handle, it is quite likely that you have the key to a replaced ignition switch and not to the doors...

A little more info would be helpful. When you turn the key, is there resistance or does the cylinder turn? I think there's a tab that bolts into the end of the cylinder that engages the arms to lock and unlock. The tab could have broken off the lock cylinder or the bolt could have come loose and the tab simply fell off the lock cylinder. Another thing, can you lock the car using the key?
