Classic,

The symptoms of your problems were classic cam timing anomaly. Glad you identified the culprit. Good job.

Carrera 3.0 engine problems.

Short update with main findings:

Wrong camshaft on the right bank:
- generation 1 930 camshaft

Wrong dizzie.
- with ..001 last digits, should be ..006

Now new original camshafts and correct dizzie installed. Both timed to spec.
Result: - engine running like new.

Very reputable german Porsche engine shop rebuilt this engine 10 years ago and engine just set aside without staring it up until this spring. The list of wrong things found that the shop had done to it is shockingly long !

Case closed.

regarding the dizzie - Carrera 3.0 turns dizzie opposite direction from other 3.0 found in SC. What exactly was the one installed ending in 001 from? Just curious what difference is between that one and the correct one.

According to Porsche the one with ..001 at the end is for the 2,7 engine. The one for the 3.0 Carrera enige has ..006 at the end.
I have learned that there are differences between the mechanical components for the advancing curves.
