'84 3.2 Bucking & Backfiring under acceleration

First time out after winter storage, car was bucking, backfiring and stalled under acceleration 3 or 4 times within a 10 minute time period. Car would not immediately restart but did after siting for a few minutes. Condition cleared up after about 1/2 half hour and car ran fine. I thought that I might have had some water in the fuel and added about 5 gals. of fresh fuel before putting it away; second outing 3 weeks later, the car ran fine. Today was a repeat of the 1st outing. I haven't changed the filter in about 3 years (less than 1,500 miles) and will change it this week. Any diagnostic/curative suggestions would be appreciated.

The filter is a good start - I typically replace mine annually. Maybe a bad tank of gas, but this does underline how our cars dislike sitting. Best bet is to be sure you put a gas preserver into your near-empty tank after a good run and fill up. Sorry not to be of more help I am a CIS guy! Good luck.

Worth checking plug wires, connections as well. Also check your fuel tank strainer.

Mine did something similar and I thought it was the DME. Turned out replacing the CPS sensor and RPM sensor got things cleared up.

Also thought about the Crank Position Sensor, will also check the plug wires although they only have about 2,500 mi. on them.
