My 1982SC has been not running right , have been checking things out when I noticed this air leak between the two parts of the air box,
took it apart and found this crappy fix , must have broke free ![]() ![]() I am getting it ready for one of AL's EFI?ITB kits , needs to be running great. What can I do to fix then get it running great without to much expense??? thanks anthony |

If looking to get your CIS going again, I would replace the airbox. You are not going to get that one to seal again.

If you insist on getting the CIS "running great" before the move to ITBs and your sure you're going to dump the CIS, then just glue it (JB Weld) together for the short run? It's already broke. It's not like you're going to decrease its value.

The top appears to be missing a large selection of the spline that fits in the lower channel. You might be able to dremel the groove in the lower section but without a spline, no adhesive is going to hold that together for too long. Whats your timeline for swapping to ITB's?

To your goal of a temp fix... I'll suggest degreasing both flanges all around, then apply gel epoxy all around. Gel will stand up to vibrations. How long it will last depends on how clean surfaces were made.

Unless you need it running great to drive to Al’s I can’t figure out why it would matter since you’ll be stripping all of the CIS off for the ITBs.

Speaking in our quaint local dialect... That airbox is fu cked.
I suspect it's only chance of survival is to remove both halves and take them to a plastic repair place such as a bumper repair shop, and get them melted together. |
