964 questions

A buddy of mine just bought a '94 Carrera 4. I looked at it today and have a few questions.

The clutch pedal has a slight pulse (push in and out) when the car is running and you gently push the clutch pedal down to the take up point. Frequency maybe 2 per second. He says it drives and shifts fine.

The engine has a rather loud whirring, much louder than the exhaust or valvetrain noise, easily heard outside the car. I've been around a lot of 3.6's at club events, I know they sound different, but this is unlike anything I've heard. When you touch the fan housing it seems you can feel it, bad alternator bearings?

There is what looks to be a small tensioner on one of the belts, I'm thinking this is to indicate a broken belt?

The car is a widebody, with a standard 964 motorized tail. Does anyone have prouduction numbers for these?

Thanks!

Todd

No whining with my motor. Bad alt bearing do make a sort of grindy whirrly sound. If you can feel a fibration at the fan housing it will most likely be connected with the alt. Bearings would be my guess.

Exactly

Sorry can't help with the rest.

The little wheel alongside the belt is a failure sensor, since there are two belts, and the other one is for the alternator.
