1970 901 numeric shifter
I finally installed the Numeric shifter in my 1970 911 ST hot rod. The 901 trans has been built with custom gear ratios and had the stock shifter in it when I bought it.
Before installing it, the stock shifter would sometimes nick reverse shifting to 2nd. It was also difficult to engage 1st or reverse. The trans was rebuilt less than 500 miles ago so it is in good shape. The throws were long and engagement was very sloppy. After installation, the Numeric shifter is amazing. I never hit reverse. Gear changes are crisp and solid. It feels like a totally different transmission. This change alone transforms the car. I cannot say enough good things about it. Another benefit of the Numeric is if I decide to go with a 915 in the future, I just swap the lockout to the other side and it works for a 915 also. I purchased the heavy spring version and added the extended shift handle and knob. It definitely does not look stock, but this is a hot rod so I don't really care. Function over looks. Interesting and thank you for the review. I have an old Weltmeister in my car and it's a ginger, slow experience to get into first or go 1 to 2. I've been considering the Rennshifter but didn't realize this was an option as well.
