Dash Clock Replacement Idea (Go GPS / Digital)

After years loathing over the stock 911 clock, I finally decided to do something about it and researched this awesome little multigauge for ALL you tech nerds. Check out the X95 from Autool. It is loaded with an array of features and data display points - including, YES - A clock. The best part about it, the clock is GPS enabled and updates automatically every time it turns on!

At a glance, this multigauge includes:
MPH
Altitude
Voltage
Time Driven
Distance Driven
CLOCK
Pitch and Roll degrees (not very useful for a 911)

I decided to hard wire the X95 to a spare/fused instrument gauge connection. This gives me the proper batt. voltage as opposed to the supplied cigarette lighter connection that only runs 5v. (So, Key on / X95 on. Key off / X95 Off).

As for fitment, luckily I had a spare clock housing and used it to fit the X95 in place. It did require shaving the plastic housing bevels to fit inside snugly. Once installed, the GPS reception degraded slightly, but still worked. The the clock/date info loaded fairly quickly, but location / speed data takes a few mins. I'm going to see if I can rig up an external antenna and will post what I find.

In all, wish I had a 3D printer to make a period correct looking gauge insert, but if I'm honest, this doesn't look half bad as it is!

Let me know what you guys think!

Kinda cool!

Was just thinking about options for this spot... my clock is toast as well, and something a bit more useful would be ideal. Period correct bezel would take this all the way home. Nice job

Pretty trick! Talk to John Bell, I'm sure he has some ideas on how you can mount that into a clock housing.

You could use a clock delete plug from our host and cut a concentric hole the size of the multi gage. Warning- the plug is ridiculously priced.

Thanks! Had not consider that option, but may try it since GPS signal works through plastic, rather than metal.

Cheers!

Clocks right 2x per day. Why change it? Should be looking at the road anyway. :-)

It's not broken, I just don't like the boring, analog stock clock.

I don't believe so. I used the VDO boost gauge in my '84 turbo in the stock clock location with good success tho.

Pretty sure there a 3D print file of thingiverse for a 911 clock delete “plug”; you might be able to modify that design?

IMO the most valuable option: extra large oil pressure warning light (aka idiot light) - especially helpful when busy on the track !
