Fan case movement with new fan strap - Stupid question
So over the summer, I ditched my original fan strap for an Achtung Craft unit. Vanity will be the death of my car.
After ~4 months of use, I've noticed the fan has ever so slightly inched forward where it's barely contacting the crank pulley (Maybe 1cm of movement). I loosened it, pushed it back, then retightened and went for a short drive and it did in fact move just a hair again. I did not tighten the fan strap to the full 72 inch pounds (~20 inch pounds in reality) but I did give it the old push/tug test which it passed with flying colors as it was certainly tightly in place. Should I just go ahead and tighten that bad boy down a bit more? Obviously, movement is going to cause expensive damage over time but I'm terrified of cracking that Mag housing. Again, stupid question, but trying to avoid an expensive outcome.

The originals are a lot beefier, is all I've noticed.

Yes, I kind of regret this upgrade. There wasn't anything functionally wrong with my old one and, of course, I had to cut it to get it off.

I had some free time this afternoon so I tightened it up. I don't like that the mounting bracket bends as it's tightened as it doesn't give me confidence in the overall unit. I tightened it up a few more turns than before, which led to some slight metal creaking (but no apparent cracks or warping) and took it for a drive. It didn't budge. I'm guessing colder weather caused everything to shrink and move with normal operating vibration.
Overall, I wish I'd stuck with my OEM bracket but I'm happy nothing broke (yet). unit ![]()

my oem strap does this but it takes it many weeks to move much. I'm not too excited about tightening the strap much more because the frail mag housing is known to crack and distort.
How tight should we all be tightening these?

72 inch pounds is what I've read here.

My original strap also lets the bottom of the fan housing creep a bit. The pulley has cut a half moon out of the housing. I've tried to correct it, many times and it still slips back. Don't think it's your new strap

Thanks, Tony. I’m glad I’m not the only one.
