Cam timing spec, "L (or E) cam.

So, title pretty much says it all.
Years ago, Deman Motorsports built a 2.7 for me.
Along the way, as I was backing it in to do a service of things like belts and fuel lines, it......caught fire idling in my drive. :/
Fuel line spring a leak down at the pump, and BOOM.

So, the left side saw some heat. But the right side was fine. So, I sent the left heads out to have them cleaned up, and have pretty much been a jerk and replated and learned how to Cerakote all the other parts that were looking like they were 50 yrs old (1973E from Germany imported in '74 to NJ)

Putting it all back together..and timing the cams..but what spec? Grady Clay said ideal was 2.17mm****TYPO!!!My bad!!!!!!He actually said 3.0-3.3, ideal at 3.15mm.. in one older thread...and Grady was The Man, so I'm inclined to take that as gospel.

I'll do the right side too, while I'm here. I trust the shop, but, you know what they say, trust......but verify.

So, the basic specs PMOs, Pertronix on the distributor, and MSD, 2.7 9.5CR, Cam part number is an L cam from 1965, (specs the same as a 73 E cam less the MFI drive ) SSIs and an muffler TBD.

Thoughts? Is 2.17mm the number?

(Some good youtube vids out there on the process)

Got non-cis pistons with some valve relief notches? Spec book for 72/73 lists e cams @2.7 to 3.1 w/2.9 optimal. Early L engines 3.0 to 3.3.

John, I'm going to assume so, because the car has 5000 or so miles on it since the engine was built by Ricks shop. I didn't notice any odd marks when I was in it.

Thanks for the specs.

Also I dug through my pics and found a piston pic. Looks like it has reliefs so looks like 2.9 is the answer
