Help. 915 shifting accuracy problem
Okay, the history on this is that I have a '73 coupe that I've tracked for a few years. The first trans. I had would randomly pop out of 5th gear occasionally and 'zing' reverse on downshifts under lateral stress (turn 8 at WSIR).
I went to another trans because of a leak, and observed the 5th-reverse problem still. I replaced the SC shift tower with another -- installing the Factory short shift kit. The 5th-reverse problem immediately went away, but it then became difficult to hit 5th -- more and more, the trans would go to 3rd. I've adjusted the shift rod (to the point of losing first, and back), examined all the bushings for wear, even dropped the little 'V' plate out of the trans housing to be sure it wasn't loose... It seems to me the next step is motor mounts -- I was thinking that 4 solid mounts is overkill. Has anyone had luck with 2 solid mounts placed diagonally? Or with the .07 (cab/clubsport) mounts for a problem like this? TIA

techweenie,
The hot ticket if you want some livability on the street is to have club sport (cabriolet) mounts on the trans end and solid mounts on the engine. Not too buzzy since the trans is still mounted with rubber. I have this on our car and it is super accurate and no more shifting issues when under a hard cornering load.
