removing and replacing drivers side window lift mechanism om 73 911

From what I gather, the window lift (scissors) unit has a large center spring that adds to the lifting of the window via the hand crank. When cranking up my window, its a struggle so can I assume that the spring no longer functions or is binding? After removing the inner door panel, arm rests and door pockets I am confused as to how to remove the window glass and the entire lift system to replace with a new one.

Can anyone give a step by step procedure for this? Can I just replace the spring unit alone?

Thanks

Bob

It is usually the pivot that breaks.

This should help you remove the regulator:
