Paint Code

So I have been trying to determine original paint color from this sticker. Am I looking at the right location?

L655 decodes to Platinum Metallic, and YG is the interior color option and I think that is partial brown leather.

Strange thing is your option tag has L999 next to the color code, L999 is usually for a paint to sample color.

The L655 within the code is Platinum Metallic, L999 designates Paint To-Sample, which means the color can be any Porsche palette from years past not offered on that model or model year.

Did you find a small silver Paint code label on the inside of the trunk, passenger side fender wall, that would confirm the larger hood label. Also, should be one in the Owners/Warranty book.

@dg567 - Thank you, that is not (pewter metallic) the precise color. So it’s a metallic and believe it’s a quartzite brown metallic and wondering if that’s an actual custom color that was available. Have not seen all the records on car. Appreciate the reply.

So I need to go back and look for the silver paint code label that you described. I will do that and hopefully will find it and solve my mystery. Thank you very much for taking the time to help me sort this out.

Confirming color name

Hi. Looking to confirm this is a custom color that was ordered in lieu of the L655 metallic pewter. Thank you all.

That looks like platinum metallic to me - it could have been a paint to sample option if that color wasn’t available as a standard color option.

Hi IU89- It appears based on the VIN that your vehicle is a 1984 Model Year. Here are two pieces of data from Porsche. From the factory's online listing, 655 Platinum Metallic is shown as an '84 paint code option (it's the 6th listing from the bottom of the page)...

Additionally, from the actual '84 US Color guide, it appears that Targa & Cab models with 655 also had the secondary code "U1V9" (The V9 apparently designating a black top)

Please note this additional string from a 1983 Cab with Platinum Metallic (see the "U1V9" designation on the owner's manual image)...

Question on Paint/Interior codes 83 SC

As such, could the secondary "L999" designation actually have been for a unique cabriolet top fabric color other than black?

Amazing information and greatly appreciate all the information. I took this pic and I can confirm it’s truly a platinum metallic color. I believe it may have been a custom top but since I’ve known the car the top has been brown.
