cruise Control not working

89 Carrera.

Cruise Control worked a year ago. Not sure why not now. The cable appears to be the right tightness. No Light on the dash to indicate it's on.

Any likely causes I should check out.

I drive every day on an HOV road. Its easy to hit 90 without paying attention as there are few cars on the road.

Thanks,

Chris

Check the switch to the right of the pedal cluster. It is inside the hump.

Clutch Pedal out should close the switch and allow the CC to engage. When the pedal is pushed in a small amount, it opens the switch to disengage the CC.

Also check the two vacuum line on the forward end of the CC Pod.

First off, the Bentley manual is totally wrong on the trouble shooting tests.

Most likely, it is the main module. It is easy to get to in the trunk. Remove it, and send it to one of the many rebuilders. I think Timmy does them. It is the same unit that Mercedes used.

Do a search for cruise control on the site, and you will find multiple threads about it.

On my 85 there is no light at all on the dash for the cruise, I did not know there was a light one the dash for later model 3.2s 911s.

No instrument light for my 87 Targa. I had my CC module rebuilt and found a disconnected vacuum line during suspension refresh engine drop/install.

Your 89 is a 964 platform, right?? Many electronic upgrades. Cruise may work much differently.

Or not at all, i.e. analog vs digital!

Mine worked fine every time I used it. Did some detail work in the engine bay and it didn't work anymore. Poked around for what I may have disturbed, etc., then pulled the bullet fuse and one of the end caps fell off (cracked, not burned). Replaced the fuse and it's been fine since.

My 88 has worked great for years in over 10 years of daily use. I have had to replace the Bowden cable in the engine compartment once and carry a spare in the car.

Good luck.

After reading these posts is jiggled the clutch petal while driving and the CC started working. Guess I have a bad switch.

Many Thanks everyone!

Find a skinny yoga instructor to get their head and hands down there to adjust it.
As an old fat man myself, it is a very tight fit and really hard to see with bifocals down in that area.
It is not fun.

Just a few FYIs for this thread. The 87-89 G50 cars do not have vacuum operated cruise

Again with the G50, the module is under the dash to the right of the radio and not in the frunk like the 915 cars.

Also, still no light on the dash.

I doubt the vacuum line contributed but good catch!

I think his is an early 89, still a 3.2 with G50

We had this done on an '84. Inexpensive and quick turn around!

Mine became intermittent but using some contact cleaner spray in the steering column stalk switch seems to have cured the problem.

We fixed one last week that was due to no contact with the clutch switch. We adjusted the switch but in hindsight probably could have just adjusted the bracket in the tunnel by loosening the two 10mm nuts.

Also pondering if there this is an early symptom of a failing master cylinder not fully returning the pedal the last 5%.
