Wiring - fuse placement question
Hi,
I am getting ready to do the wiring conversion for a 2.4t motor that is in my 68 911. I've noticed that somewhere along the line someone removed the fuses from the engine compartment. My question is, where would I want to place the fuses, logically? Would it go between the voltage regulator and the alternator or between the main lead and the voltage regulator? I seem a little cofused by your question. Isn't there a location on the electrical panel on the left side of your engine compartment with three fuses located there. I have them in my car which is much newer but none of them relate to the VR or alternator.

Nope, none there. Just a panel. There seems to be a significant change in the panel, post 68. I would think there would have been one there originally? Assuming there was, where would one want to logically place the fuse? The engine compartment wiring in the 68 seems somewhat primative when compared to later models. .

The alternator circuit isn't fused; blowing a fuse would likely burnout the alternator diodes.

Depends on year and model but for 1973T with CIS:

Ah, perfect. So I really don't need any of them other than the rear window defroster then. My 73 motor is carbed and was MFI to start out.

Looking at the original hardware it looks like there was one fuse box (with one fuse) on it originally. The PO's somehow deviated from the stock wiring so it wasn't being used. Do I need to use a fuse in the engine compartment or should I just leave it the way I found it?
