What did i do wrong?!

Please don’t roast me! I took the car apart for paint, now when I put the suspension back together, the drivers side is set back about 1.5 inches.. I don’t understand what i could’ve done wrong?!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1691036493.jpg

Show it with the wheel off, and closer.

jugar23 08-02-2023 09:29 PM

I have new brakes and front sway bar coming, so it’ll be apart again but not sure how it could be off so much.

Lots of caster, maybe, but the top of the shock mount would have to be pushed waaaaaaay forward for that much.

FA-18C 08-03-2023 04:14 AM

Think you need to show the strut mount in the trunk to see the position. Agree, could be a "simple" caster issue. It looks pretty far forward in relation to the strut housing in the wheel well.

Zuffenwerker 08-03-2023 04:28 AM

Did you remove the strut mount for paint?
Did you replace the front pan?
I just dealt with this on a car last week but the wheel was too far forward. The last person to assemble the front suspension didn’t have the control arms/bushings pushed all the way into their housings

I feel like someone else did this exact same thing just recently. The thread should be out there....

Edit: I don't think it's caster, you'd need something like ten inches of caster to get that much movement at the hub!

Edit again: I can't find the thread but I'm pretty sure the other guy had an issue with the control arm bushings or mounting points of the control arm.

Loosen the strut mounts and put car on the ground. Check strut make sure it’s straight they do get bent believe it or not. What’s the car history?

Flare is too far forward.

group911@aol.co 08-03-2023 07:22 AM

I believe this is correct.

Cant be, it was fine before i took it apart. Ill disassemble and start over.

David Inc. 08-03-2023 07:59 AM

Can you snap a photo of the control arm from underneath, showing the mounting points and full shape of the arm?

dg567 08-03-2023 08:02 AM

Any photos of it before it was taken apart? Unless its the angle of the photo, there doesn't seem to be enough space between the flare and the turn signal.

Could be the angle of the pic. @jugar23 if only the driver side is skewed you should be able to measure the distance from the reflector to the wheel opening on both sides and see if they are significantly different from one side to the other.

proporsche 08-03-2023 10:07 AM

take a picture if you can from the bottom cross section so we can see it better to help you.i doubt is the body-fender
problem..
Ivan
oh ya once you figure this out i would change the rotors;-)

Mark Salvetti 08-03-2023 10:08 AM

Maybe a little crazy, but could they have sent you back the wrong fender after paint? There is a lot that looks weird about that fender in the photo.

Is the fender fully mounted? Looks like its sagging towards the front end of the car.

Rodsrsr 08-03-2023 10:48 AM

Maybe post a before pic so we can see how the fenders lined up.
