Where to find the type 935 flat fan?

Well, the title says it all. I am looking for a flat cooling fan setup, à la 935. Actually, I'd need 2, but I won't be too picky.
Anything goes, even parts of a setup.
Where to look?

Well the last complete and authentic flat fan set up I saw sold for over $$ 15k! I can't wait to see what project you'll be using this on - pls post some great pictures. Good luck on the hunt.

A recent issue of Excellence had one slapped on a crazy-ass 914 with a turboed 6. The guy paid $8k for it in really bad condition, IIRC.

My suggestion is to contact race support / tuning garages with HSR / SVRA "arrive and drive" programs such as:

Kelly Moss Motorsports
901 Shop
KlubSport
Brumos
Ecurie racing

etc...

Most of these shops have supported a 934 1/2 or 935 for one of their clients and have long time connections to the porsche racing world. Most of these shops have refurbuished / rebuilt cars that needed the parts you are looking for.

Like Blue said, the 914 guy paid $8k for his and that was 10 years ago! I would start with Gunnar racing in Florida. They would know, and have BIG connections at the factory. I have to say that i have thought of trying this too.

How is the fan driven..?...I thought it had a shaft coming up through the case

It's definitely gear and shaft driven, but I don't know where the drive comes from.

Thanks for the hints, guys.
The fan is shaft driven, with a gearset to pass the 90 degree turn. The drive is from the std crankshaft pulley.
My mechanic needs these. He has a few orders for 935 engies, and the customers have asked if the flat fan is available. He has built a load of these, mainly for US clients.

I think this would make a neat add-on product for racers. Convert your upright fan to a flat fan? Last one I heard of coming up for sale also went for around $15K...

Ooops, I replied over on the 917 thread. This guy (in the UK) mentions that 935 parts are "available".

Wonder why there haven't been any aftermarket people making replicas of the horizontal fans. They look too cool to pass up, hehe. Seriously though, does anyone make a look-a-like horizontal cooling fan, at a reasonable price?

The Corvair used a belt driven flat fan.

I think Dave Buhain of MSRoadRace.com had one, or knew where to get one.

i was asking about this a while back and it was suggested that an engineer-type could probably use some salvage helicopter gears to make that right angle bend to drive the fan...

I would love to see some one make this...

Corvairs also had RUBBER main bearings.

The cooling setup on the Corvair is pretty pitiful, with a belt coming off the crank, going up the turning 90 degrees via a pulley to drive an ovehead fan. Terrible design in my opinion.

3/4 shafts...not sure what the rpm limit is...cost is about 150bucks just for the unit....
