Red tubes double as the oil lines to the oil cooler up front. Look closely and you can see the fittiings in some pics.

Maybe not.
Fittings were routinely used in 908/917 frames to air- pressurize the frame...and see what the leakdown rate was. This would help determine if the frame was cracking. True enough....it may well be the oil routing to the front oil cooler. John Wyer, when he ran these cars, promptly went with dedicated rubber oil lines to gain better reliability and troubleshooting capability. ---Wil Ferch
