1972 Steering Column Play - Will the 928 Part Work?

Noticed some play in the steering wheel the other day and went to research the fix. Removed the Momo wheel and there is significant play in the column in the vertical axis after tightening the shear bolts behind the dash. Probably 2mm of play which is certainly noticeable driving.

From the images and videos I’ve referenced I’m not sure that the steering shaft bearing below will work for my ‘72 as it only is listed to fit my ‘81 SC.

Anyone know if it’ll work?

My steering column.

Thank you for any assistance.

And a link to the video since I can’t determine how to embed YouTube videos.

Different setup, won't work. Is the bearing cup and spring on the shaft?

Thank you HarryD, spring and support ordered. My Haynes manual, which I haven't referenced since buying the Bentley for my 1981, has a good image of the steering column for the '72.

Will report back once the parts are installed!

Apparently I’m also missing #27. Does anyone know what that part number is?

DG567,

Night and day difference in the column! I also tightened the two bolts behind the gauges which seems to have helped as well. Thanks for a much improved ride to work this morning!

Really makes a huge difference in the feel after you have all the right parts in there, right?! I had the spring in my column but was missing the bushing.

Sweet wide body!
