Another tire question
Running 7s and 8s 16 inch BBS RS on my car.
I need new tires that look good and work well and I had a few questions since it’s been a few years and it seems like there are less options every year. Last time I went for 205/55/16 and 225/50/16. But if I’m understanding tire sizes right then that means my sidewall in the rear is slightly shorter than the front. So marginal that it’s almost equal but still. I’ve read that some people run 245/45 rear but also that those sizes are better for 9s than 8s. Just looking at my current setup I had wanted to get a slightly bigger sidewall for the rear. Not a ton of options out there. I did a Quick Look through old threads but haven’t seen anything all that comprehensive that’s also recent. Feel free to call me out though if I missed anything obvious. Thanks!

The stagger is based on weight distribution and power, w/a stock SC/Carrera 205/225 is a good place to b, then you fine tune w/ profile 205/50 instead on 205/55 gives a little more grip at the expense of ride comfort, 205/45 more so similarly 225/45 gives a little more grip than 225/50 but w/ shorter side wall and less comfy ride. 245/45 has a shorter side wall, so much so the it imparts more under steer to the car w/ a stock 205 front than 225/50 and gives more grip from that as well as the wider footprint. But on an 8 the effect is less pronounced than on a 9

Being totally honest I don’t even see options in a set for the existing tires I have.

205/55 and 225/50 have the same sidewall height: the second number is the sidewall height as a % of the width. ![]()

There are plenty of good choices in those sizes.

Not going by what I see on tire rack or discount tire direct. But maybe they’re all low on stock after the Black Friday sales.
