Steve is an amazing guy, both in the Porsche community and humanity as a whole. He recently sent me some special rice to make sushi with after some discussion on FB about the subject. Like so many, Steve is a cherished friend I have never met.

A few times over the years Steve and I discussed that we both have Crohn's Disease. The GI docs make me take a colonoscopy every 2 years. I hope his docs did the same. I would think they would have seen this coming. He's given me free advice over the years on engine builds.

Praying for you Steve

Wow. Very sad to hear. Steve has been active in the Porsche online community for decades. I think I first 'met' him online in the '90s. In one instance, I had a question about a custom exhaust for my 2.7 I had at the time (that you ended up buying Shaun!! - small world) and he called me on phone at work and we talked for probably 30 minutes as if we had been friends forever.

Truly one of the good guys.

Very sad news...when I bought my car almost 20-years ago, I called him several times to bend his ear and then I would see his posts from time to time.

Definitely a legendary air-cooled guy who loved these things.

Sending him comfort and my best.

Terrible news. I never met Steve but like many others I’ve interacted with him here and spoke to him a couple times. He has always been generous in helping others. He deserves better than this.

Happier times, at the last Rennsport. He was already sick back then, but you’d never know it when talking to him. He was such a kind and generous man, and if you weren’t talking cars, he would want to talk about you. Even after he closed the shop and was just consulting by phone he would ring me up just to say hello, especially after I got sick. I already miss those talks.

I’ve been chatting with him the last couple weeks. He’s at peace with things, even if it’s too soon. He’s only 75, and this thing turned quickly on him last month. I’m going to miss my old friend.

Steve has always been my 'go to guy' with question about my 72T, that I've owned for over 20 years. He always answered my questions, ordered my oil filters and took my transmission to one of his old friends for it's rebuild. He would then ask me questions about my flying career. He would always make me feel like a friend.

Very sad to hear this. 20+ years ago when I first caught the Porsche bug, Steve was one of the handful of guys on the forums who stood out not only as really knowing his stuff but as a truly menschy guy -- generous with his knowledge, friendly, approachable. This was before there were a hundred DIY threads on every mod and project and huge parts of this hobby were documented for everyone to see. It's normal for those who spend decades gaining expertise the hard way to be reluctant to give all that knowledge away for free. But Steve has always been happy to share, with no ego, and it set a wonderful example and helped create the culture we all enjoy here.

Back then I was young, basically broke (this is when you could get into a 911 for $5k), and transparently had nothing to offer him in terms of being a customer or helping him make a living. But he replied to all my emails and we even spoke on the phone a couple of times.

Steve, if you're reading this, thank you for all you've done here, on Rennlist, and for the community. May your remaining days be meaningful and comfortable. Godspeed.

Steve helped me many times on this forum, whether in my own questions or thru posts from others. RIP Steve, you did a lot for us all.

This is really devastating news. Steve has been such a pillar of this community, giving selflessly for decades. We will not be the same without him.

I’m so sad to hear this. I knew he had been sick, and I’ve been really concerned since he stopped posting here and on Rennlist with any frequency a couple of years ago. I feel his advice comes up in searches about as often as Grady Clay.

There are only a few people whose advice I would read and trust Steve is definitely one of them. He will be missed. Best wishes to Steve, his family and friends.

I reached out to Steve several years ago about an upcoming engine rebuild based on a feeling that I got from his posts that not only was he very knowledgeable, but also a great person. My hunch was spot on and he educated me on what I should do to meet my goals.

Best wishes to Steve.

This is very sad indeed. I knew him well- had many a long conversation over my car, sourced a bunch of parts through him and always held his opinions in high regard.

All the best to Steve and his family during this time. He's been the "go to" for knowledge in the P-car community for as long as I can recall. Steve rebuilt my 3.6 distributor a few years ago and was always pleasant, helpful, and great to work with. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family.

A big loss to the Porsche community.

Thoughts with him and his family.

Like everyone has noticed....Steve was always so helpful, friendly and knowledgable. He used to show up at our local Burgers & Beers monthly meetings and rain down incredible stories. I hated for the end of the night to finally arrive. We've really missed him and all his stories the past few years. I've been to his house a few times, marveled at his small business out of the back of his garage and of course got to meet his cat.

Steve will be sorely missed....as a friend, Porsche fanatic (which he surely was) and all around great guy. Not very many come down the road like Steve.
