You just can't buy advertising like this!

An Ebay car listing with a sad story behind it.

An engine rebuild that lasted 1,000 miles.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2420198177&category=10156

(if there's a line break, it's Ebaymotors.com item #2420198177)

Of course, this is just one side of the story...

"The engine rebuild was done with technical help from MotorMeister in Downey (Lee is the head mechanic). "

Im so glad I found this forum or maybe someday I would have also made the above mistake. They do have a pretty website though.

btw...nice list of toys that you have there.

"THE OWNER FOR 14 YEARS HAD SPENT $1000'S UPGRADING HIS PRIDE AND JOY, BUT HAS NO TIME TO CONTINUE IT AFTER THE ENGINE FAILED 1000 MILE AFTER REBUILT. "

"A professional repair would cost approximately $1000 and if done by one’s self, it should cost no more than $300 in parts, including all gaskets, etc. "

Huh?

Hey, sonic, you took those pix of your pretty red Cab abaout a mile fron where I live -- near Paradise Cove!

They aren't all toys... with the economy in the toilet, I've taken to buying & selling Porsches to help pay the bills...

:-(

As for the original topic, I'd hope that an engine overhaul that failed within 1,000 miles would get some consideration and cooperation from the shop that did the work...

I find it sad when somebody potentially leaves the Porsche owners' fold over an incident like this.

I bet you that the PO who donated the car to charity wrote it off for more then $25K as a collectable Porsche 911S with BA's numbers for support.

Did anyone else notice that the parts called out as being replaced are all bolt-on stuff. Maybe the internal stuff is listed off-line as the seller aludes to. I feel sorry for the seller, it sounds like he was taken.

Lets be fair here, it says the motor was rebuilt with technical help from MM. I don't think we can blame the motor rebuild on MM in this case. I'm not a MM fan, I've dealt with MM so my comments (if you care to look them up) aren't hearsay.

The wheels appear to be 7/8s. Sad story but could be a neat find.

On a moderatly related note, in the pictures of the bottom of the engine I see two things that my '88 doesn't have. In the off-center shot is something that looks like an oil line with some sort of inline accumulator, and then in the shot of the bottom of the case is what looks like an oil line that makes a big loop around the bottom of the case.

What are these things?

Why would they have not bothered to upgrade to turbo valve covers?

"something that looks like an oil line with some sort of inline accumulator, and then in the shot of the bottom of the case is what looks like an oil line that makes a big loop around the bottom of the case'

First line is EGR system (from muffler) and second line (big loop) is the air injection system to heads. Both are emissions systems. Thermal reactors are gone, replaced by "headers". It is unlikely this car would pass the visual inspection of the California emissions testing (provided the technician knew what he was looking for) without the thermal reactors. Jim

Doods,

Who cares? That is a hell of a project car with a really nice interior with no Reserve currently at $3000!!! This could end up being a steal for someone. I wish I knew where it was in San Diego.

Speaking of pretty of MM's pretty website, has anyone read their race car driving tutorial. OMG LOL

"It is back to the freeway again. This time avoid getting too close o someone’s back end. You can intimidate freeway drivers just by acting like you are in a hurry and you are trying to get by them by going from side to side within the confines of your lane. Develop the feel and sense of the communication between drivers.

1. Practice using mirrors
2. Practice passing
3. Practice communication between drivers"

The way the statement is worded it sounds like the PO may have done the rebuild himself with phone consultation from Lee at MM. I've done that with very good results, but I take responsibility for my work and don't blame the results on a phone call. MM typically provides very good technical advice, for free on the phone. Also a good parts vendor. Always responsive when I call on the phone. Can't give them a bum rap for that. No complaints.
