1988 G50 Release Fork updated??

So I now have the clutch out, and the release fork is part #950 116 712 3R. According the records I received with the car, the updated release fork installed with the last clutch job was 950 116 086 06, along with the shaft upgrade, etc. Does that mean I still have the original release fork, not the improved one? There are needle bearings in the casting. How can I tell if tranny was really machined for the upgrade? Also Bentley suggests on a G50, the flywheel should NOT be machined. My records also show that the flywheel has in fact been machined. Could that be why the clutch disengages right at the top of the pedal . This is getting complicated. I really don't want to buy a new flywheel.

I have same question.

My 88 had the throwout bearing upgraded back in '97 when the engine was out for new valve seals (long story).

I've got the engine/transmission separated and when I pulled the clutch cross shaft out the needle bearings in the bushings fell out. I need to replace them or...?

How can I tell if I have the upgraded fork as well?

If the needle brgs are in the bell housing bores and the TOB fork has bushings than you have the updated parts. As far as resurfacing the New flywheel I have had 100’s of G50 flywheels resurfaced over the past 35+ years and never had any problems as long as you use a spring center disc and not the original style rubber hub disc.

Also in in general hydraulic clutches have a higher engagement point that only gets higher as the disc wears.

Richard
The needle bearings are inside the bushings on each end of the cross bar.

Here's my fork:

I've just confused myself...

> If the needle brgs are in the bell housing bores and the TOB fork has bushings than you have the updated parts.

When I originally read this, I must have read it wrong because I was thinking I needed the upgrade.

But now:

- The needle bearing holder was in the bellhousing.
- I have plastic bushings on the fork.

Thus it's the new kit. Right?
