Help with Haltech injection
I am helping a friend with an early 911 that has a 3.6 transplant being managed by a very early and hopelessly outdated Haltech F7 injection computer. Haltech no longer supports these and I have not been able to find anyone that can test the Haltech unit itself, specifically the circuit board in it.
The problem is that the computer will not cycle the fuel injectors. There is power to everything and the car start if we manually inject a small amount of fuel into the throttle body. The issue seems to be either a lack of signal from the distributor to the ECM, or the circuit board in the ECM. I have an old DOS computer which runs the Haltech software and I have the original floppy discs for the Haltech system, but the unit will not communicate with the desktop when hooked up using the original RS232 line. I suspect that the ECU's circuit board has a broken connection somewhere, but testing for that is beyond my skill set. If anyone knows of a Haltech F7 for sale or someone who could help diagnose the condition, any and all help would be much appreciated. |

I had similar challenges trying to get connected to a 1990s era Motec. I initially tried everything I could think of using a DOS emulator and a serial plug to USB adapter on a newer computer. I couldn't get the Motec to talk to the computer for the longest time. Eventually it did, but what I got out was gibberish. Turned out the Motec didn't support USB communication, so what I was doing was never going to work. Getting a 1990s computer running Win95 and having a serial port was the fix for me.
One thing that was helpful in figuring out the above was getting on a forum where older Motecs were discussed. If you don't find your answer here, see if you can find such a forum for old Haltechs. |

I recommend joining the Haltech forums, there is a section on there specifically for the older models.

Thanks for the input. I have not been able to find a forum on the Haltech website. There is a Facebook forum and there is also one on Reddit, but my searches there have not generated anything related to the F7.
I am surprised that there does not appear to be any independent tech out there that still knows how to work with these. I spoke with Haltech and they flat out told me that they don't support such an outdated system and recommended I purchase a new one. |

Yes, that looks to be the same one. The one I am working with is an F7, this is an F7B, not sure if there is any difference. What was this one installed on?

I don't know. It came to me in a big box full of turbo parts. I think I may still have some harness and interface cable also. I do not have any of the software and when I looked around I did not see anything available. It's of no use to me, if you think you can make use of it PM me.
