clutch tech ? HELP!

my 77 911 clutch is not right the pedal comes up jerky right when the clutch is ready to grab nothing then suddenly contact and stall
if your very carefull you can start off
is the spring on my clutch pedal suppose to pull the pedal back up
cause mine pulls it down to the floor as soon as i unhook the cable from the trans/ im thinking the pedal is bent/ or the pressure plate is bad /any help is much appreciated before i pull the trans and motor apart
