Carrera 3.2 - orientation of O2 sensor heat shield

What is the correct orientation for the O2 sensor heat shield on a 3.2 Carrera?

My thinking is that it should point at the cat to protect the sensor from heat coming off that cat as I have it set in the picture below.

ErrorMargin - your thinking makes sense. I'm no expert on this topic, but that's how I would position it myself.

Q: what Cat are you running here on your '84 3.2 Targa? It looks like aftermarket, and looks like it is rather recent --- with the barcode and QR code tag welded on. I see you're in SoCal, so assume this is a CARB approved cat?

My 83 SC (SoCal as well) may need a new cat, so keeping an eye out for CARB approved solutions.

Thanks!

The PET has the shield protecting the sensor from road debris that could be kicked up by the tire.

My original "87 has the open end of the "U" shape facing the valve cover (rotate your shield 90 degrees clockwise).

My car recently passed smog (after a bit of work), so I guess it is CARB approved?

See below for a picture of the tag.

Let me know what you find about this.
