Removing air conditioning "stuff" 2.7 engine

EDIT: Thanks to @blucille for cluing me in that the "stuff" in question is related to emissions, and has nothing to do with AC!

Hello all

I've been searching as much as I can find on the AC system on the 2.7 (which honestly isn't much), but this project seems to be straight forward and there are now modern systems available for those who want/need AC so I don't feel the need to keep it.

So, in the spirit of getting better access to the rest of my engine, I'm going to remove the AC stuff that was left there by the PO.

Here's what I am dealing with:

The AC vents and other "stuff" in the cockpit are already gone.

Any considerations/tips/tricks when removing the compressor and associated parts? The black "canister" behind the compressor is part of the AC system, correct?

Any issues I need to take into account when removing this stuff? Obviously I will save it for the next owner, but not sure - outside of originality - why anyone would want or need it.

Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

the bits on the left side of the engine compartment are emission controls, an air injection pump. The AC compressor would be on the right and it seems like it's already been removed pretty thoroughly.

Don't even see the baseplate for the ac compressor. Wonder if ac actually was installed.

What's inside the "smuggler's box"?

Ooops, the "stuff' is "emissions controls" not AC

Gotcha - I appreciate the clarification.

I've seen a lot of images of engines without that stuff, but from what you are saying, I'd be cautious to remove it until I understand how the system works, what it does, etc., etc.

Time to start reading up! Thanks!
