Something new! I was testing the wire for power on the passenger side, for what position on the toggle did what, corresponding to each wire. When I used the test light on the green/white wire...simply ground it to see if test light illuminated, the driver side mirror tilted!!! WTF? That is the first time I got any mirror to tilt in years!! When I unhooked the test light from the green wire on the pass side, the drives side only titlted, no matter which direction I pushed the toggle. Whats it mean?

You managed to energize the mirror solenoid. I didn't realize there was another thread about this. Did you check the diode that's soldered across the solenoid terminals? That was the problem on both of my mirrors.

i had that problem before.. changed both diodes. i test led them on my friends car a worked perfectly. still getting crazy movements while moving wire around. but don’t want to burn diodes again touching wrong wires together i’m trying to figure it out on paper before trying anything.

Edit: removed my question here.

Edit: new question; on the car side, can you verify that brown is a good ground?

good for you..maybe you could mention what was your problem;-)we know you were looking for a ground-did you ever tried to add ground to your ground wire?

it was a ground...missing wire

The passenger side needed a "loop" wire. I needed the ground (brn) along with a jumper tail which would go into a separate slot on the same connector (this would be the connector coming from the car harness)..the doubled brn (doubled meaning the slot that has the ground from the car and the short tail wire that goes to another slot, Single brn...which connects to green from mirror..that completes the ground. The double wire connects to the stripped wire from mirror, which move the clutch, which changes from horizontal to tilt.

After a couple conversations it was determined that for some unknown reason he was missing the ground jumper for the magnetic clutch.

after he adding the jumper off the brown wire to the additional pin to provide the necessary ground for the clutch the vertical adjustment now works.
