Wolfe’s 1983 911sc build thread

Hey everyone. Recently sold my 944 & purchased a one-owner 1983 911SC in slate blue with navy interior. Can’t wait to dive into this build and make it my own. It looks to be well taken care of, assuming it’ll need some routine maintenance to get caught up as I drive it more after winter clears. I have a list of things already planned that seems to grow daily. follow along and feel free to chime in! Cheers

Congratulations!! I am currently working on a "Barn Find" 1983 911SC. You have a much better starting point than I did. Where in Pa are you?

Nice, I’m very much a DIY”er, but don’t have all the necessary skills/tools to do a barn find level restoration. So this starting point is much more manageable for me haha.
I’m also around Philly.

Great looking SC.

Hope to run into you at a NY/PA/VA area event once driving season starts back up again!

That pretty much is my personal favorite color combo. Beautiful coupe. How did you find it?

I specifically wanted slate blue, but the navy interior was an added bonus. I would have been content with black. managed to snag it on a Facebook 911 group and shipped from the west coast.

didn’t like the silver carpet thresholds so I decided to paint them black, also took this opportunity to replace my door seals. I find the lower corner nearest the hinge is really tough to get in there. My doors are noticeably harder to close now.

From the very first drive home I could tell the shifter was one of the first things that needed to go. Decided on the Numeric racing shifter and coupler. Excited to install in the next week.

Great choice on the shifter! Glad to see them going to good owners, and a pleasure doing business with you. If anyone else is looking for a west coast gem, check me out at

Thanks again for the easy transaction and helping assist with cross country shipping!

Today I tackled the rear bumperettes. It’s an easy mod that just requires drilling a few holes. The US spec is a big eye sore so I opted for euro. I have flush plastic plugs for the 4 holes that I’ll color match in the meantime, but eventually will fill the holes and respray the middle license plate section of the bumper once it gets warmer out in a few months.

Better photo of the euro bumperettes in the daylight.

Tested out some 1.5” spacers in the rear. I’m lowering the car a fair amount, and mounting a little less bulky tires in the coming months, but this looks pretty good for a ballpark until then.

As well as a new shifter it’s worth changing the bushes in the shifting system, it can make a night/day difference, takes little time and cost.

Luckily the kit comes with the 2 bushings you’d want to replace, so I’ll have that taken care of with the install. 👍🏻

Made some progress on installing my Numeric Racing shifter. Removal of the old one is pretty easy, only difficult part is lifting the center console without disconnecting the wire harness. I managed to work around it.

I still need to install the coupler before making any comments on how it feels. Simply replacing the shifter though has already removed almost all the slop, but definitely needs some aligning as a few gears are hard to get through. Looks great!!

^^^ That original has to be a really short transmission shifter!

What size are your rear tires? I bought a set of 25 mm spacers for the rear wheels with 225 tires.

Yea it’s a factory short shifter kit which is cool.

Tires are 225/50. I plan on going a little smaller when I lower the car for a tighter fitment.

Congrats, love that Slate Blue!

225/50 is the correct dimension for the rear of your 911.

The slope is not slippery; in fact it is entirely frictionless.
