Interesting approach for what?

While the motor is still out of my Euro 81 SC I'm going thru the car and the front was this Sunday's adventure. And after removing the 80's alarm system previously what remained was the siren so off with the front bumper. And the surprise was the welded U channel steel between the two Euro solid mount bumper supports. So what comes to mind, was he planning a demolition derby? Or is this a lame way of federalizing the car from 1985? Whatever it is, it's leaving the premises. I have parts on order from our host! Anyone ever seen this?

He might have wanted to mount some lights……or maybe he just wanted some more rigidity for the bumpers? I did something similar on my 1975…..but I am running a fiberglass bumper on those euro mounts. It was a little wobbly, so I had a brace in there. With the factory stuff….no clue why it would be needed.

Maybe the car had a fiberglass bumper at one point and was swapped back to a stock bumper?

Good guesses, but no idea? I thought maybe from a miss alignment but I cut the mounts off and without the bar they lines up fine. It's a one owner car prior to me but the guy was not a car guy and from the work that was done to it over the years there were some repairs I question. Good news is no one harmed the car, just not work I would have done. Thanks

No shocks on a Euro car, just hollow tubes of steel. I had one and already ordered another to replace these. Thanks though.

We’d like to think that whoever did that, was doing so as a logical/sensible approach to achieve a goal that we can’t discern. Maybe it wasn’t the case 🙂

Most likely it was something done when the car was federalized when it was first imported. It was all pretty ad hoc back then.

When I was running a fiberglass 934 style air dam/bumper, I thought about building a steel bar, like that. The fiberglass wouldn’t do much in a front end crash.
