JW or other CIS gurus. One question
I have been chasing my problem around and did some CIS tests. I was very intersted in a volume test and I di d get 235CC's of fuel in one minute at the WUR. Since this is a good number according to the book can I assume that my pumps are good and do not need to volume test them separately? Thanks.

just realized you would need a little more info. My pressure tests came out to 6 bar (87psi) with the valve closed and 4 bar (58 psi) with the valve open. Hope that helps, thanks again.

You said: "my pumps are good and do not need to volume test them separately".
You only have one pump -- there is no "them"! Did you measure the output over one minute from one of the injectors? Or from the fuel line that feeds the WUR? Injectors need to be flow tested individually -- it that what you are after? |

Yeah....NOW check the injectors, you are not finished.

Not that I don't appreciate your response, but I do have a "them" 930's have two fuel pumps. I agree however that I must now test the injectors/fuel distributor. I just had my injectors ultrasonically cleaned but that test will reveal any FD probs.

lendaddy,
Sorry, I did not realize that Turbos have dual pumps. Sorry. The reason for the post was that the 235cc volumn test seemed low to me -- but I was in the hospital and did not have access to my books at home. I'm home now (after 16 days, it feels great!) and looked up the 911SC spec. It shows minimum flows OVER 30 SECONDS of 850cc or 1000cc, depending on the year of the car -- what my memory thought it was. So I was wondering if your 235cc was taken from a single injector rather than an unencumbered fuel line -- one that is not downstream of the fuel distributor. I am speaking now from an intuitive sense that something is amiss. If I am way off base, please don't spank me too hard. But I am curious to know if the specifications are that much different for the basic fuel pumping between the 911SC and a Turbo of approximately the same year. Brian Haggard, Chester, VA |

235cc is at the WUR and is supposed to be between 160cc's and 240cc's, so thats good. I was asking if I should bother testing the pumps since I had good numbers here. The flow for the pumps at the return line is supposed to be 1170cc's in 30 seconds which I will test tonight since it is easy anyway. So it looks like we were saying the same thing a little differently.

Whew! OK. That completes the picture for me, and you are obviously on tom of what you're doine. In poking thru the factory manual and the spec book, I could not find a spec for flow rates thru individual injectors. They specify opening pressure, no leakage felow that pressure, and even spray pattern -- but no minimum flow rate at some specified pressure.
Now I'm going to go look for a spec for "at the WUR" like you originally mentioned. Have not seen that one before. Thanks! |
