Is this due to a walking crank - excessive crank end play??

I had the exact same thing happen in my Chevy Stovebolt 261.... probably the furthest thing from a Porsche engine that is still out there!

the pedal pushes out towards you..

Anytime a motor moves ie bad motor mounts etc. it usually will put pressure somewhere else, or your chassis could be flexing.

Physics. If the pedal comes up the throw our bearing is coming forward. Could be mounts could be tranny.

Yes, your clutch is cable actuated. The problem starts with how the cable housing is attached to the car. At the forward end, the housing is anchored to the body of the car. At the aft end it is anchored to the transmission and engine assembly. That transmission and engine assembly is mounted to the body of the car via four rubber mounts. They are rubber so that they can absorb vibration and not transmit much to the body of the car.

When these rubber mounts wear, they allow for excessive movement between the transmission and engine assembly and the body of the car. With the clutch cable housing spanning the two, it gets alternately stretched and compressed. It's designed to do this all the time, without you noticing, since those rubber mounts will always allow for movement. It's when that movement becomes excessive that you see and feel it in the clutch pedal.

That's why they are telling you to check those engine mounts
