Engraving found on 16x9s

I found this on a pair of 16x9.

Brumos
2-24-88
1000 Polish Chrome

Does this just mean they were originally a polished chrome pair? Or maybe means nothing. Anyone come across this before?

Maybe Polish (from Poland)

Polish Chrome (Poland) vs. polished chrome have very different meanings.

Maybe a bit of a jab at Polish people. Like when some ethnic group of people are involved with a certain way of doing something in society. Case in point, in my experience living where I do, people who drive up the to a house honking their horn to alert an occupant of said house that they are there to pick them up, rather than walk to the door, is called “A xxxxxxx Doorbell.”

Polish chrome could be polished aluminum.

Whatever "Polish Chrome" means, it was probably done at Brumos the 24th of February 1988, hence not original....

BTW: In Sweden and Scandinavia (I think) we have an expression "Polish Parliament" describing a chaotic/dysfunctional meeting. It goes way back to the 1600-1700s.

Are they chrome or polished?

If it’s a bonafide Bruno’s wheel used in their racing, nice collector item, and then probably that engraving is the refinishers reference mark, 1000 grit polish compound vs. anodizing.
?
In the previous Brumos link:

In 1960’s Chicago, “Polish Chrome” was leftover silver chain link fence paint used on rusted car bumpers, also used to paint steel wheels used in the stock car race circuit.

They never raced with polished or chrome wheels. It may have been polished by Don Leatherwood, who worked in the Race shop back then, still waiting to hear back from him.
I own a couple of pairs of Fuchs that were used on the Brumos race cars.

Probably a wheel that Brumos sent out for chrome to install on a 911/930 they were selling at the time as a dealer installed option.

@Racerbvd - thanks, I enjoyed the backstory on your early days.
I like when provenance can be added to the history !
A proper set of Goodyears - bravo !

By the way, is that real Brumos Aluminum Foil wheel weight tape ?
(also considered polish-chrome)

Here are pics of the face. Clearly not polished. Also they have what looks like copper on the rim, which would be odd on an aluminum rim.

This is also writing on a 16x8 951 wheel.

I agree with this. Chrome isn't automatically a mirror finish when applied, if you have seen a rough casting chromed you know what I mean.

A mirror finish chromed item is polished first and then chromed. I suspect this is why the wheel is engraved polish and chrome.

Copper would be used as a plating underneath the nickel and chrome platings.

Yup copper indicates it was chrome plated at one time

Yes, off 2 of the 914-6 race cars and have been on my tire rack, until I decided to throw them on the speedster (this one is fake, obviously, so it can be enjoyed)
