New project - ST tDf - TRE
This is the beginning.
The car - a 1972 R clone was purchsed in December and was taken to TRE in Van Nuys for new seats and a center fill gas tank. Since I'm my own worst enemy - the car "progressed" into a full-blown restoration project. After finding numerous and significant faults with the car - it was decided to push the car towards an ST tDf with all the bells and whistles. This is how it looked in December... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Am I misunderstanding -- that's the starting point?
I don't see much to improve on.

Yup. It was a fair "15 foot car". We'd like it to be an excellent 1 foot car. These pix are what caused me to buy the car sight unseen from the broker - who is supposed to be one of the most respected in the industry. Unfortunately their description was a bit "enthusiastic" to say the least. Sadly, the car didn't look anything like the pix...
I LOVE projects - so this was a great opportunity to work with Dave and TRE - and build something I've always wanted... Aiming for sub-2000 lbs and 250hp... Should be fun. Last edited by sezme; 01-20-2009 at 04:20 PM.. |

yes ! that was the starting point. Beneath the surface there were a lot of unusually done mods where only a japanese car specialist could have been involved
Dual mitsubishi fuel pumps ala 427 cobra in the front trunk (heck, they were only feeding a weber carbed RS clone engine!) . The passenger seat is one of those import specials- best to be used for video gaming and even then beware the flex under video "G" loads, Fuchs are fakeys done with a RSR-ish powder coat- very interesting, but fake nonetheless, the cage is ... ahem cosmetic and would have hurt occupants if it had been left as "installed" Still the chassis is in wonderful condition, zero rust, and only needing some minor straightening in the right front wheel well

looking forward to the final product... which fender flares are you going to use on this one to achieve the ST style?

We have a master panel maker make the rear flares from our patterns. We can make fronts too, but on this car, it will get GT Racing front ST fenders for adding "lightness"

And, a few more.... Just tacked for fit till the rocker bodywork is done - then they will be final-welded in place.

Just FYI, I'm handling the sale of some of the parts off this car. I currently have the R tails, S f/g frt bumper, 930 turbo brake calipers, fake fuchs and RS flares available. Please PM me, do not reply in this thread.

Amir, don't forget 2.7RS heads (cut/ported), S cams, Mahle RS Pistons 8.5:1 (effectively new), FG hood, perspex rear window, Sparco race seat (in pix), gas tank, rollbar, muffler, and a whole bunch more. Again - contact Amir directly. Prices to be set by Dave and Amir.

Wow, I saw the start point and thought you were NUTs! That car LOOKs the part. Sorry to hear it was misrepresented. This looks like fun, and as you know, having Dave on the job will yield an awesome result.

All the reinforcements are done just like the factory race department had done on the ST, RSR models

what a shame about the misrepresentation because that is one nice looking car. I think a lot of people on here would be ecstatic to have a ride like that.
