Thank you Steve Timmins
I just picked up my '88 cab from Steve Timmins' shop. He installed a Euro vario 3.6 with B&B headers and his own design muffler/tailpipes. While it was there he upgraded the brakes to big reds (his set up is a little different than most) and aligned/corner balanced it. He was also able to stuff 265x17 SO3s in the rear. All I can say is WOW!! THe car is amazing to drive! Fantastic acceleration, awesome sound and it handles like it's on rails w/o being jarring. The quality of the workmanship is absolutely stellar. I really cannot convey how happy I am with the way things turned out in a simple e-mail posting. THanks also to all on this site, you guys are the ones tthat got me fired up about this project in the first place.

Good luck with your car.
Better closely read that Policies and Warranty Statement: http://instant-g.com/Products/Warranty/index.html Because as you will read NOTHING is really warranted. |

that may be true but when I was at Steve’s recent Chili cook out it seemed like the entire Porsche community was on hand to support him and his wife. The fact is that these conversions are not simple and things can go wrong in different ways from car to car. The best thing is to know what you are getting into and if you don't have the time, patience or cash to deal with unforeseen issues - don't do the conversion. Its been my experience that its the smaller shops like Instant-G that will stand by what they do more than the larger shops.

Dear Mr. Embs:
I had predicted that you would be the first to respond. Thank you for looking out for my well being.

It just hit me. The later Euro Varioram is just about the same jump in power over my (964) 3.6 than my 3.6 is over a stock 3.2.
I'm jealous. Congratulations, Lew.

thats why I am waiting for the Vario Jack. The 3.2 will be fine for now but that kind of torque is tough to get outside of a 3.6

Congrats, I saw your car at Steve's, looked great!! Post some pics. The resonator exhaust tips were a nice touch.

Steve has treated me right and he's a great guy. Can't wait to head up there again for another project.

I highly recommend the 3.8 RS mod, Wayne had the p/c cheap a few weeks ago, maybe some left?

Having said that, I'm not sure how much the extra HP means. I'm sure BBII with it's 964 motor would still beat my butt at the track.

Back on topic. My Timmin's engine is doing fine. Some mods were done by me to ensure better running, but that was to be expected.
He "could" be a little more customer friendly....... ![]()

Too big to fail

Dr Timmins has done a lot for the 911 community, particularly in the area of 3.6L conversions. He spent a lot of time and money working out the details of the conversion, such that now it's almost a commodity item. I think people take for granted that they can post a question on Pelican or Rennlist such as "how do I do a 3.6L conversion" and they'll get a response to the effect of "do this, this, this and this" - it was Steve that worked out most of those details that are now considered 'common knowlege.'
On top of that, he's had to endure a lot of phone calls and emails about the conversion, basically providing free tech support, and a lot of it to people who are too cheep to buy his conversion kit.
