When is the new 911 out

I thought the 996 was due for a redesign as a 997. Last info I heard, they were going to go back in styling to look more like the 993 with isolated headlights. Anyone know more info?

If those headlight schrouds are going to be painted with the car, that is one nice looking car. What about engine. I've heard nasty rumors, something about a V? And when are these canges comming?

All i know is that it will still be a water cooled flat six, up to 3.8L 350HP.

There are rumours of having two models as well. A regular and an "S" with more hp.

I have never been fond of the headlights on the 996, especially the fact that they share them with the Boxster. I wish they would seperate the two models a little more. I love the looks of the lights on the 993.

Agreed. 993 is still the prize in my book.

As for the 997, we'll know soon enough I guess.

Hey, as long as they don't put the lights from the Chyanne on there! I agree that the 993 is still teh best looking. I think that most people do which is why I cannot understand why it has taken Porsche so long to figure that out.

With any "spy shots", I always take 'em with a grain of salt.

From the auto news section of the "import" board I frequent:

Not sure if it's the real deal or a photoshop but here's another pic:

But it shows what an improvement simply dropping the trendy-five-years-ago headlights would be. Now, if only they could push the tail lights back down where they belong, and get rid of the resulting wedge shape.

I really like the rear end of that black car. If they were available, I'd love to replace my 993's center reflector with a body colored panel. The fender flares of the new car are a huge improvement over the slab-side look of today's 996.

Jack, let's face it...the last great looking Porsche was made in '72. I know it's easy to remove the Carol Doda rubber bumpers they added in '73...and most owners did. But then came 1974 through '94. Finally, a great looking car in '95, fitting it's time well. Then along came the 996...
oh well...

They MUST get rid of the 996/Boxter headlight design.....the Boxter can keep em as far as I am concerned....go back to the ovals like the 993 or I wont be impressed.

I agree.

Maxnine11

Good work. 993 style rear end is better.

i have read confirmed reports of
round head lights
turnsignals in the bumpers
more pronounced flares for the rears
and unspecified engine upgrades

that is all good, but the rear needs to be brought down...it looks obese...

also the interior should either be spartan or modern...I think BMW has done a great job with the M3, M5 and Z4 in keeping the interior sporty, spartan, and modern...I think BMW int are still alittle tacky and prefer good ole 911 interiors, but Porsche interior looks like cheap japanese stuff

my friends dad just bought a cayanne and the interior is better then the 996, but they have faux brushed aluminum in there...come on...plastic painted silver!!!???!!?? ugggg....

on another note 2004 the C4S cab has been officially announced with turbo cabs expected 6mo-1yr later...I saw a C4S cab on the 405...I think it was a custom job...it was near Gemballa...a shop I enjoy driving past everyday...

ok enough talk about 996 crap...back to SC's and early cars!!!!

ok....not sure if I can get any info, but one of the autox guys here is a Porsche designer and he is a great guy, but he holds the secrects pretty securely as I have inquired in the past. I will print and take the images from this thread and see what his thoughts are.
