Source for Kendall NS-MP 80W90? Seems discontinued...

Ran it in my old SC. Currently refreshing the 3.2 and noticed Pelican alongside numerous other vendors no longer stock it.

Anyone know if it's gone for good or did/is it getting replaced by something else?

Not looking to devolve into another oil thread. I currently have Swepco in it so yes I know there are other oils to use.

Matt,

What are you liking for a street 915 these days?

Thanks

The listing on JEG’s website says 80W-90, but the bottle says 75W-90 .Is that the same gear lube?

Same as I’ve said for a long time. Walmart Supertech 80w90 conventional gear oil in the blue jug. It’s made by Mobil. Valvoline and Catsrol also both have conventional oils still.

I recommend Swepco to my racing customers. But I don’t drive it on the street.

For a few years I’ve been posting about the changes to that NS Kendall gear oil. I think it was Phillips who bought them? It changed to semi-synthetic a year or two later. I hadn’t heard it was discontinued, but it might be.

Follow the original Porsche specs for the car, not the updated specs. The uodated specs say a modern semi/fullsynthetic 75W90 or 80W90 GL5 will work. IMO only when the 915 is freshly rebuilt. All worn 915 boxes with several 100's of 1000 miles require old fashioned all mineralic dino oils due to the drag torque they provide to plmake the synchros work.

I had Kendall in my car for a long time but couldn’t find it when I changed it last spring, so I put Swepco 201 in it. My box was rebuild about 15 years and maybe 40k miles ago and feels good. Feels about the same with either oil.

Swepco 201 is available in several viscosities. Which one exactly did you used? SAE80W90 or SAE90?

On the recommendation of Steve Weiner and Jeff Gamroth, I have been using SWEPCO 201 80W90 since I bought the car over 24 years ago. Approximately 76,000 miles later, still going strong.

On a 911 gearbox, i.e. the transmission before the 915?

That site has some nice articles but I'm just looking for a recommendation for a current gear oil that is correct for a 911 gearbox

That site has mentioned in the transmission lubrication pdf that the original factory recommendation gearboxes is an all.mineral SAE90 (GL5). Afaik this is valid for the elder 901 gearboxes too. Only the fillong capacity differs. Porsche filled originally Shell Spirax MB90. Thve. Re are datasheets available for this. Choose an oil with comparable data. As others wrote above the Swepco 201 80W90 is probably a good choice. It has comparable specs to the Spirax MB90.
