Trick way to clean up the dash and make room for gauges
Been working with a client who is doing an amazing resto-mod on a right hand drive Euro 930. The amount of custom work is mind blowing. He wanted to add gages in the radio slot but without the various knobs above it getting in the way. This was his solution. Pretty slick!

Really hoping he measured for clearance when those knobs are pulled out... looks tight.

Nice, but you can't reach them from the driver's seat.

Do all euro 930's have that MCM wood grain look to them?

Par for the course with RHD. We can’t reach the glove box knob, the fuel flap or the engine lid release either!
We know this guy well. He is a great guy and a capable engineer. |

Well, it is a custom dash designed by a perfectionist.

I was wondering about the DME and its relay. Are they still under the left hand seat and therefore under passenger seat? I hope they at least changed the position of the mirror switch and the window controls. They forgot to adapt their labeling on the schematics for certain years, like late 80s. The mirror that has the joystick on its side is called "Outside Mirror Left" while it would have been better called "Outside Mirror Driver Side".

Does seem surprisingly odd Porsche never bothered "flipping" the glovebox for those who drive on the wrong side.

The RHD glove box knob is irksome as on the LHD design it completes the line of knobs (fog light, cigar lighter etc) and they are equally spaced. On the RHD, the knob is not only really far away, but is all on its own. On LHD impact bumper cars, the fresh air/heater slider panel was redesigned to be the same height as the radio. The cables behind the panel exit left and have an easy journey to left side of the firewall. On the RHD they ran into a problem since the radio is directly to the left of slider panel and the cables cannot pass through the radio. So they used the early slimmer panel and mounted it higher up in the dash so the cables could go over the top of the radio. They also come out the centre of the firewall otherwise they would hit the glove box. RHD corner cutting still happening in fairly recent times. Look at a RHD 997 and you'll see the handbrake is offset to the left side as the centre console is still a LHD part. Same true with Audis.

The various knobs and switches were all moved to locations of his choosing, the most used being the easiest to reach. All of the switches were updated to modern electronics. The knobs light up when pushed/pulled and all the switches have indicator lights. The entire car is customized at that level.
The wood grain dash is not stock, it was cut, stained and installed by the owner. All the carbon fiber bits were also molded and installed by the owner. Same for the leather dash. He also refurbished and updated the gages himself. The right hand drive option created a LOT of issues during the build. Many parts of the donor 930 were lost or not useable and had to be hand made (again, by the owner). This car will be featured in Christopherus Magazine soon so I probably shouldn't give too much away. It's just so impressive I had to share a few snippets. Hey Jonny as soon as he is finished tweaking the electric A/C I'll be looking at a system for my 930 and our builds here in Alabama. ![]()

Singers are 964 based, and 964 glove boxes dropped down from under the dash as opposed to having an opening in the face of the dash. I assume singers kept the drop-down style glove box for the cleaner dash face.

I don't know if anyone caught it but look close on the left hand side of the glove box. We added fuel pressure sensors to the fuel distributor and WUR to read System and Control pressures. The owner then added this switch in the glove box to toggle the gage back and forth to see each reading. The other gage is voltage with a USB port.

In Europe , only VERY late versions of 964 took the 993 style airbag dash , so even a uk 1993 would have the vertical glovebox with the opener as far away as possible lol
