Pulling Engine
How much clearance do I need to drop and pull the engine? About how many inches from the valance, assuming a 3" jack loss.
thanks, Alan |

Depends what kind of intake system is on the car, but it's about 21". Removing the bumper is quick and buys you about 4".
Edit: I should have been clearer, it's around 21" at the jack under the torsion bar. The rear end levers up a few inches higher than this.

I alway lower the engine from the car with the car itself as low as possible. I then jack the car up as needed. I am not sure how high but pretty freakin high comes to mind. I usually end up putting wood or a paving stone under the jack stand to help get the car to the right height.

I seem to remember us getting the rear up to about 33/36 inches (with the bumper left on) for a few of our NoVa engine drops.
