If removing front control arms, where do you put jackstands?
I'm going to be doing "major" surgery, the title question says it all as I won't be able to use the front control arm mounts to support the car.

Ed,
Place the jack stands on the welded seams behind the control arms. That would be about the same level as the rear of the front fender well openings. Place a really thick piece of cardboard between the body and the jack stands so that the sheet metal around the seam doesn't get pushed in.

Or put two jackstands side-by-side on the front welded crossbar that has that hoop on it; that way they're in the middle of the car, but still support it well, and you have access to both sides. that's how I did it when re-doing the whole front end, and you have no chance of ruining any soft metal spots.

If you leave the crossmember in, its a good place to put the jack stands
