Deep vs regular offset?

Dumb question I'm sure...

What is the difference between a 15x6 regular offset fuch and a 15x6 deep offset fuch? Visually are they the same?

Anyone have any pics of the 2 types to compare?

Nigel, the difference is in the "webbing" behind the paddles. They are deeper inset than in later wheels. So, if you run your finger on the inside lip of the wheel it goes in much deeper. When polishing,
Al Reed will paint shallower which makes the wheels look wider than they are, a nice look.

The difference in wheels is not offset, but the section of the wheel. This is best understood with pictures (but I don't have any). The later wheels have a square profile just inside the rim, where the deep 6s are round. The profile was changed in order to make the instalation of tires easier, and to make it possible to include a "safety bead." The Safety bead is a lump just inside each rim intended to prevent the tire from coming off the wheel in the event of a flat. In addiiton, the valve stem hole was reduced in diameter with the late 6s. This change occured with the '72 model year. You should be able to see the difference by inspecting pictures of early and late cars.

here is something that not all people talk about: mounting tires on the oh so pretty deep dish wheels is not everyone's cup of tea. The safety bead issue,posted by another pelicanite here, is what is responsible for this problem
We found that tire shops that have machines that mount from the back side (pretty face down) can do the job. Obviously the finished side has to be carefully set up in the machine so no damage occurs
