I bought a 911 engine,and i dont know wich model is,the engine
code is 961390,somebody can help me?

fastspeed, would you double check your engine number? It doesn't look right to me.

What do you mean by engine 'code' number ?

There are essentially 2 numbers which identify a 911 engine - both can be found to the right hand side of the fan assembly :

the engine serial number which from '69 - '81 was seven digits beginning with a 6 then from '82 - on it was 8 digits (as earlier but with a letter inserted after the first two digits) eg 62P12345

& the engine type number which will be in the format

901/xx
911/xx
930/xx or
M64/xx


Check your number(s) again & post them here & we'll tell you what you bought.

Incidentally, why did you buy it if you didn't know what is is ?

I will double check the ID number in the engine.
I bought the 911 engine with 901 trans.,to adapt in a 93 bus,
in a last of the case,probably i will have 130HP if is 2L.

901105111OR,please somebody know what 911 engine is this?:confused:

That's not the engine number - it's a casting number.

The serial number is stamped on the vertical surface & the type number can be found on the horizontal surface:

That is a casting number. Look again

I checked again and numbers are:901/02 7782 Horizontal Surface
and 961390 Vertical Surface.

Mario, you threw me off with such an oldie. Here's what I think you have...

It's a 1967 911S engine, 2.0L, 9.8:1 conpression ratio, 160HP @ 6,600 rpm, 132 ft-lbs torque @ 5,200 rpm. Should be fun in your 93 bus.

That's a 1967 2.0S engine. Rated at 160bhp @ 6600rpm & 132ft.lbs torque @ 5200rpm.

serial number inside the bonnet: 7812175186080

6372563 is installed in my sons 1977 LHD Targa?

63D3985 is an '83 3.0SC engine - type no 930/10 - rated at 204 bhp @ 5900

6372563 is a '77 2.7 engine - type no 911/81 - rated @ 165 bhp @ 5800

It turns out that fastspeed has a very desirable #961390 1967 911S engine type 901/02 that was built in early 1967. It falls in the range on 961141 to 962178 built from January ’67 through July ’67.

You should consider reuniting that engine with a (or THE) 911S it was built for.

The value of this engine can pay for a 911 3.2 Carrera engine and more. Far more suitable for your VW. There are several here in Colorado who can help.

Search this (and other) forums about this very desirable conversion. This is an opportunity to have something far better for your VW and reunite the 901/02 engine with it’s original chassis (or close).

Because of the info you gave me here, I could make a decission on what the car really was.
It was a 1983 911 SC with 993 body kit (fibreglass) on it.
I got the price down buy half mainly due to your info, plus the condition the bodywork was in.
I am very happy with the mechanicals.
...and it is Yellow (with a GT2 tail which has to go!)

Interesting, the original thread was from 2003 (eight years old). My info is that the 67S engine is now in Australia.

I have a similar question as Fastspeed.
I have a '71 911 and I would like to restore it.
I'm not sure about her engine.
The seller told me it is a 2.2 but not the original one.
The numbers are 61008xx (the last 2 numbers are not readable)
Is there anybody who can tell me which kind of engine is?
