Value on early 911 + PPI help

I 've asked a couple of times and this board always delivers. I have been looking for an early car for about 2 months and you guys have critiqued a couple for me. This particular car looks to be right up my alley. Do any of you know it? Can you take a shot at value and can you reco a shop in the Minneapolis area, zip 55446.... here is the link...

For a PPI I'd recommend Johnson Autosports (952) 233-0275, Auto Edge (651) 777-6924 or Flat-Six Inc. (952) 884-2060. The odd thing about this car is, I don't remember ever seeing it advertised locally and I do try to watch what's offered for sale around here.

The car is a 1971 Karmann T Coupe. It looks like the present owner has put a LOT of personalized work into this car, only to be selling at a loss shortly after completion??? I would ask why.
Check everywhere for rust, and rust repairs, as this car is in the heavy salted location...
If he has recipts for all the engine & trans work described, they will be over $15K...the base car is worth (rust-free) about $10K, the interior and paint add $$ only if really well done, AND you are liking the red...
If it runs and drives well, and the engine is all he says and new, the car should bring about $15K, in my book... YMMV

I would concur with Bill, I would be suprised if the reserve is less than $15k.

The description in the ad makes it sound as though the writer didn't completely understand what he is writing about. Why mention 'new gears' in a transaxle without saying what they are? I think there's a good chance it's simply new syncros in a rebuilt transaxle. Also, why no specs on what was done to the motor? Aside from its displacement, you'd think he'd want to mention what kind of torque and hp it's putting out.

It could be a decent car, but there had better be a lot of thorough documentation to back it up.

I doubt that it will bring that kind of money through ebay- with so few pictures, and as Jack says, not many actual details of the work done..

Thanks for the help. Looking at this guys collection he seems to take top notch care of his collection. I am still doing my research, and will make arangements for a PPI. Any other opinions still appreciated.

Schuey,

No i did not, i wanted to get the price closer to reality before I went ahead an invested several hundred in a PPI. Since that never happened i never went ahead and did it. It appears to be a very nice car I emailed extensively with the owner over the summer and he had great references on all the classics he had sold. I know he is still trying to sell the car, and I am sure the price is more realistic now.

Small nit but it doesn't have the claimed euro front blinkers. The interior is kind'a pimped out...is that a two-tone dash? Interior door panels from a short hood 911. No engine pics after talking up the 2.5L that's in the car. It might be kind of nice but not "73RS clone" nice. My feeling is that it's possibly worth mid to high teens if it's without rust, the seller has a detailed build sheet on the engine (and what's done makes sense), and you like that interior.
