Show me your early car WITHOUT Fuchs! (Kinesis, etc...)

Hi all,

I'd like to see some pre-74 cars WITHOUT Fuchs. If you can, post a pic of your ride, and what (If anything) you did to adapt the wheel to fit the car. Also, let us know what size they are, etc... Specifically, I'd like to see some cars with later-model Porsche wheels, or race wheels (Kinesis, BBS, etc...) and see how they look.

I am trying to get my hands on a pair of those, my father in law has a pair and he is thinking on putting him on a 356 he is restoring. If I get my way those will look sweet on my car. Here is a current pic of my car on the left and 78 SC with Boxster rims.

Cool! How are they able to fit the boxter rims?

Not sure, but I'll find out. I know the tires sometimes rub, but that is probably due to the fact car is really low.

Pelican member cornpanzer has a set of the American wheels on his early S - they look great. You should be able to do a search under "american racing wheels" and find more photos. A friend also has them on his 72 but I know he ran into problems getting lug nuts. He actually had to have them machined for his car. They look quite nice - he has them powder coated flat black with no center caps. He paid around $1000.00 for the set and I believe that was a good price.

Also, some have mentioned the original American wheels may be stressed or cracked now that they're 30+ years old.

You need to massage all the lips, move oil lines and grind trailing arm bolts.

8 & 9 with 235/40 and 265/35 is a much easier fit(or 225/45 & 255/40)

I could show you some on a "later" car but yours would not have the additional flaring to fit anything much wider then a 7x16 fuch. I would imagine this is why you don't see to many pre 73 car with aftermarket wheels unless they have flares. Are you adding flares to your car would be my next question?

Yes, I have the flares already. Just checking to see what people are doing besides fuchs.

I had to 'roll' the inner lips on the fenders to prevent rubbing. I used a wooden baseball bat to roll the lips. Also, later carrera flares on the rear wheel wells. The wheels are 7.5 and 9's. Rubber is 225/45 & 255/40. Wheels are aftermarket so no spacers required. The car is currently at an extremely low ride height (was like this when purchased) and I'm pretty sure it should come up a bit (especially considering the front bumper will be glass) . The car was also converted to later style short hood.

SC body with 8" front and 9" back, 17" Fikse 10 spoke, 235/45/17 and 255/40/17 S02s. I just bolted them on with zero problems. If you have SC flares or better this is an easy one.
