Engine heater blower delete options

The heater blower that is located to the left of my 3.2 engine has ceased to blow BUT instead of replacing it has anyone simply removed it and put in a bypass tube or anything? Y'know... to race it out... so to speak.

Mahalo,
Steve

If you have SSI's you can back date it with earlier sheet metal. If your keeping the original exhaust system, I suppose you could duct it without the blower.

From what I have learned the air flowing through the heat exchangers is also used to help with the cooling. Obviously, with headers, this is a non issue, but for a car with heat exchangers it is important.

There is a tech article out that describes how you can replace the engine blower fan with a ~$20 motor.

89911 you have ssi's I presume? That engine bay sure looks clean. Does anyone else have a 3.2 without headers that has the backdated heat? If so could you post some pics from underneath as well?

Steve-pull the motor off-a few 10 mm nuts and loosen the hose clamps. Once its free, use an air impact to remove the fan (there's no way to lock the motor, so impact is necessary). You'll see a couple of bolts holding the two halves of the motor cover togther-remove them, and the internal nuts will come loose-they're in a channel, no biggie. Take the cover off. The motor armature (sp?) will lift out-the magnet is strong, but it does lift out. Your brushes are likely shot-pry up the tab on the end of the brush holder and slide them, and the spring, out. Now, cut off the pigtail near the brush. Take the brush to a Sears Hardware etc. and go thru their brushes-you'll find something VERY close. Put it in, cut/solder the pigtail, fold down the tab (I had to shorten the spring that came with the Sears brushes) and it'll go.

Why give up a heat blower (it also serves a cooling function on 3.2's) when for 45 minutes of work you can have it working again?
